OYSTER BAY AND SCARBOROUGH :
St Francis Bay:At 11h12 on Thursday 12th, January St Francis Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were called out following reports of a man having a suspected heart attack aboard the Chokka fishing boat Galaxy off Oyster Bay.Our St Francis Bay volunteers launched Spirit of St Francis II accompanied by a 24/7 ambulance service paramedic and on arrival it was confirmed a 45 year old man had died of a heart attack.The body of the man was brought to our sea rescue base and handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
Kommetjie:At 15h12 our Kommetjie duty crew were called out following eye-witness reports of red distress flares being fired by the crew of a ski-boat off Scarborough.Our Kommetjie duty crew Spirit of Winelands and on arrival found the 6 meter ski-boat Goliath, with 4 crew onboard, 2 men in their mid forties, and two teenagers, drifting towards rocks after their boats engines failed, in a 35 knot North Westerly wind and 4 meter swells.They were about 10 meters away from running onto the rocks when we arrived and we quickly set up a tow-line and towed them to shore safely where they required no further assistance.They are all from the local nearby Oceanview suburb and they were not injured.
