On 17th September OMSAC (Old Mutual Sub-Aqua Club) undertook an International Coastal Cleanup at the bottom of Hout Bay Harbour. NSRI Hout Bay got involved supplying two support craft for the divers in the harbour and offering our rescue base as a meeting point.Part of the process was recording of data, we thought you would find this interesting/alarming:60 people filled 58 rubbish bags in 2 hoursIn addition to a fish finder they also picked up:47 beverage cans4 cell phones3 hose pipes81 plastic bags27 items of clothing2 fishing nets2 fishing rods2 lightbulbsas well as bottles, paper bags, batteries, tyres, plastic cutlery, rope, buoys, lures, cigarette butts, three appliances and the inevitable condoms.For more info visit OMSAC on Facebook.
