Langebaan’s first Youth Festival was held on the 3rd September, and the aim was to expose the youth of the area to the dangers of the sea, from swimming, to safety and of course to NSRI.We are privileged to be invited to be part of this event. It started with a procession through the streets of Langebaan’s residential areas the morning. We took part with our mobile and 5.5m Semi-ridged, with several volunteers in full kit. From there we went to the event area at Sea Breeze Park’s rugby field where we had an exhibition, consisting of our mobile, the 5.5m, as well as the gazebo set up with some of our equipment.A CPR demo was done by Arno Smit, which was very well received. We would like to thank him for his effort. there was lots of interest in NSRI’s display, but it was very clear that the broader public still thinks that NSRI is a government organization, and it seemed to be a shock to most when we explained that were are an Not for Profit Organization with unpaid volunteers.Overall the day was a great success, and we hope that it will grow next year.
