The Port Elizabeth deep Sea Rescue boat, “Spirit of Toft”, is back in the water after her refit.
“East Coast Yachts of Durban have done a tremendous job,” said operations manager Mark Hughes, who oversaw the project. “They completed the job on time and within budget … and she looks great.”
Durban class 1 coxswain Brian St Clair-Laing is finishing the sea trials and then, in the first weather window, will sail the rescue boat back to PE with Port Elizabeth volunteers. The journey will be split into two and will take around 27 hours from Durban to East London and then fourteen hours from East London to PE.
‘Toft’ is kitted out with two Volvo D6 330hp AF turbo charged engines with ZF reduction gearboxes and is capable of 25 knots.
