At 07h08 on 28th July, 2011 NSRI Shelly Beach were called out to help a man who injured his back when the commercial fishing boat Hakunamatata was hit by a wave while launching through the surf to go to sea.Our Shelly Beach volunteers launched Caltex Endeavor and Netcare 911 ambulance service was called.Caltex Endeavor met Hakunamatata 1 nautical mile off Shelly Beach, in rough seas, where our medics treated Jacque Fourie, from Gauteng, for lower back pain.Jacque was stabilized and secured to a trauma board and brought to shore aboard the rescue boat.He was handed into the care of Netcare 911 paramedics and transported to a local hospital in a stable condition.Jacques father, Johan Fourie, was treated for shock.
