
Each week NSRI's six WaterWise educators are out visiting schools around the country to teach children about water safety, how to avoid danger, what to do in an emergency and who to call for help.This is story is from Mamelodi based educator Fortune Sibiya:Eighty six Grade 6 pupils from Ndima Primary School in Mamelodi had an opportunity to learn about water safety when I visited them during the WaterWise / King Pie “Be a Hero” campaign.The school’s principal, Mr E Senwamadi asked the pupils to be on their best behavior and pay attention as they where about to learn valuable skills which would help them should they be faced with an emergency.I started the workshop with the WaterWise safety PLAN, emphasizing the importance of the plan and encouraged them to ALWAYS remember it, to avoid unwanted accidents.I then taught them how to assess a patient ( Hazards, Hello and Help) and how to administer bystander CPR.Says Fortune : “I was humbled by the level of respect these pupils showed me. Ndima Primary pupils were very well behaved and their Principal also took part in learning CPR which was great.”
