Port Edward – 30 April, 2011: Two incidents during fishing competition:At 08h00 NSRI Port Edward volunteers, on stand-by for the fishing competition 'The Port Edward Ski Boat Classic' held off Port Edward, were called out following a request for assistance from the ski-boat Bare Back. The boat had steering mechanism failure, 3 crew onboard and were 2 kilometers off-shore.Our sea rescue craft Wild Coast Sun Rescuer, already on the water, responded to the call and met the casualty boat just off the outer breaker line. One fisherman and all of their fishing gear was transferred onto our rescue boat in order to make their boat lighter, and the skipper of the casualty craft, and his crewman brought their boat in through the breakers.At 08h30 Wild Coast Sun Rescuer was sent to assist the ski-boat X-Ta-Sea. They had a 68 year old crewman onboard with a suspected fractured right ankle.Our sea rescue medics treated 68 year old Jan van Rensburg, from Klerksdorp, for a confirmed right ankle-fracture.Mr van Rensburg was transported to shore aboard the sea rescue boat where he was taken to hospital by Netcare 911 paramedics.
