Cape Vidal – 21 May, 2011: Man dies following shark incident:Just after 13h00 NSRI Richards Bay and the Emergency Services were activated following reports of an adult male bitten by a shark while spearfishing at Cape Vidal, 150 kilometers North of Richards Bay.The KZN-EMRS Red Cross AMS helicopter and private ambulance services rushed to the scene to provide medical support to the victim who had been taken out of the water by fellow spear fishermen.He was given first aid by medical personnel who were in his group of spear fishermen.On arrival paramedics continued resuscitation efforts on the man who had lacerations to his thigh and was in a critical condition.The man was declared dead on-scene after all efforts to resuscitate him were exhausted by medical personnel.Police have been called to the scene and an inquest docket will be opened.
