This weekend Melkbosstrand took their 6.5 metre RIB “ Spirit of the Vines” to Bakoven to see if it would work as the replacement for the Mallard that is currently on station.
“Spirit of Rotary Table Bay” is the only rigid hull rescue boat left in its class, and was solidly out performed by the new Gemini. The Bakoven NSRI crew were really impressed with the handling of the RIB and are very keen to find solutions to the problems of getting the bigger boat into the rescue shed, making the launching dolly work with the new craft ... and finding sponsorship to replace the aging “ Spirit of Rotary Table Bay.”
