The helicopter is prepared for the mission. On Friday evening, 4 March, the NSRI Titan team represented by Stuart Burgess assisted Titan helicopters with the evacuation of an ill Phillipino sailor from a bulk carrier bound for Singapore passing the Cape. The rendezvous was planned for a point at which the vessel would be within relatively close range of the Titan Helicopters base in the Ben Schoeman dock. The vessel diverted off it's course and made for Table Bay with the helicopter taking off at 2340. The vessel was met 15 nautical miles out and being a bulk carrier a landing was possible on one of the very large hatch covers. The patient was assessed by the Metro paramedic who determined that he was in a fit state to fly and he was loaded onboard for the flight back to cape Town leaving the vessel to carry on with her passage. On arrival he was transported to Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital by a Netcare 911 ambulance. The Titan crew on the call were pilot in command Louis Venter assisted by John Pocock with engineer John Britten.
