At 10 am yesterday ( 10 02 2011) Agulhas volunteers launched their 4.7 metre rescue boat “I&J Rescuer II”, to help get the crew of boats taking part in the annual Marlin competition out to their boats moored in the bay.A strong onshore wind had come up, breaking the anchor rope of one marlin boat and causing 3 others, to drag their anchors. Initially the competition stand-by boat had gone to the aid of the boats in danger of being blown onto the shore, but when she was damaged while coming alongside one of the marlin boats, NSRI was called out. Our volunteer rescue crew made three trips out into the bay, getting the crew of the marlin boats safely onto their vessels so that they could motor out of danger.
