When you donate to NSRI, you are assured that:
We have an open book policy – our financial statements are freely available at any state library.
We have no secrets – NSRI hosts an open AGM meeting in August and all are welcome to attend and participate.
Your donation does not go on salaries – NSRI is run by 980 unpaid volunteers, and our head office staff are paid by our Platinum Partners and interest on investments.
You can claim back from the tax man – NSRI has been awarded special SARS 18A status by the Receiver of Revenue.
Your company can claim points for your BBBEE scorecard – NSRI has been audited and it is confirmed that more than 75% of our beneficiaries are 'per definition black', you are welcome to ask for a copy of the audit.
Your money goes directly into our bank account – NSRI does not use 3rd party agencies to collect money on our behalf. (Note: if you pay donations via a third party – you lose the tax benefit.)
If you are donating to a charity via a third party agency – check how much of your donation will go to the charity and check how long they “hold the money” before they pass it on to the charity
At NSRI we take corporate governance very seriously and even our board of directors, our auditors and our advertising agency are unpaid volunteers. We do not participate in multi-level marketing/network marketing schemes. We do not sell our database to commercial organisations offering commercial products or services.
Before you give to a charity, check out their credentials. If they refuse to give you a copy of their financial statement or do not allow you to attend their AGM – ask them why not.
