The Sea Rescue base at Kommetjie has been broken into.Neighbours noticed on Saturday 30 October that the lock was broken, and on investigation it was found that the station has been robbed. Kommetjie is now not able to respond to call outs and Hout Bay will cover the area until the volunteers are able to get their boat operational again.Three handheld VHF radios and chargers, a fixed VHF radio, 2 fire extinguishers, dive fins, snorkel and goggle sets, fuel tanks and fuel lines and their connectors, safety equipment, personal strobe lights (worn on the arm during night rescues), torches and a waterproof search-light were missing and damage to the rescue craft is evident. The stolen and damaged equipment is valued at about R60 000.
