The Gauteng Rotary NSRI Wine Auction was held on Wednesday evening at the Johannesburg Country Club, Auckland Park. It was a great success with R200 000 raised for the new Melkbosstrand rescue boat, “ Spirit of the Vines,” settling the shortfall on the cost of the vessel.According to organiser Andrew Connold, “ It was quite spectacular. The Rotary Club of the Knights Pendragon were very proud to be hosting this well supported fundraiser for Sea Rescue.”About 180 people were thoroughly entertained in the Johannesburg Country Club Ballroom by Gift Ngwenya of Auction Alliance.“ He was a huge part of the success. Being both funny and entertaining, while keeping the evening moving at a lively pace,” said Andrew.“ A four course meal was served between the auction sessions and it was a spectacular evening. Feedback received indicates that the guests thoroughly enjoyed the event and are looking forward to next year’s auction.”Modeled on the success of the Wine Auction hosted by the Rotary clubs of Newlands and Table Bay in Cape Town, now in its 15th year, the event is expected to have a long and rewarding future.Thank you Rotary.
