Four surfers left the water as fast as they could on Saturday 4 September after a shark, estimated to be 5 metres in length, swam close to them. The surfers were at Lookout Beach, Plettenberg Bay, about 150 meters off shore, and in the wave line.Matt O'Carrol, a regular surfer at the spot, thought that it was a Bull shark or a Zambezi. Three of the surfers managed to catch the next wave in, but Matt who was further out, found his way blocked by the shark. He was able to catch a wave in when the shark moved off.Research conducted by the Save Our Seas foundation shows that there is a normal migration of sharks closer in-shore at this time of year.
