NSRI Kleinmond crew were called to a tragic incident at the Kleinmond Main Beach Lagoon on Saturday afternoon.

At 15h12, Saturday, 10 October, NSRI Kleinmond duty crew were activated following eyewitness reports of a drowning in progress at Kleinmond Main Beach Lagoon.
Our NSRI rescue swimmers and NSRI medics, CMC (Critical Care Medical) ambulance service, ER24 ambulance service, Overstrand Fire and Rescue Service and the SA Police Service responded.
On arrival on the scene, we found bystander Good Samaritans were in the process of recovering a child from the water and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced by bystanders, including by a clinical practitioner, on the local 9 year old male who had been discovered underwater in the lagoon. The child had been visiting the beach with family.
NSRI medics continued with CPR efforts and were joined on the scene by paramedics. Despite extensive CPR efforts, after all efforts to resuscitate the child were exhausted, the child was sadly declared deceased by paramedics. The body of the child has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Service.
Family of the child are in the care of Police. Condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased child.
Police have opened an Inquest docket.
