A body has been recovered on Strand Beach on Thursday morning, believed to be that of one of the men who went missing during Wednesday's tragic incident, as Police search efforts continue for the remaining missing man.

Strand, 3 September – This is an update to the tragic incident that took place at Strand Beach on Wednesday afternoon, 2 September.

On Thursday morning, 3 September, NSRI Gordon's Bay were alerted to reports of a body discovered on Strand Beach, in the Helderberg Marine Protected Area, near the Lourens River.

The SA Police Service, Police divers of the Water Policing and Diving Service (WPDS), and the Western Cape Government Health EMS were alerted and responded, with NSRI Gordon's Bay crew responding to the scene to assist.

On arrival, the body of an adult male was located and recovered by Police divers, assisted by NSRI and EMS paramedics. The body has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

While it is believed that the body recovered is that of the 39-year-old man who went missing on Wednesday, formal identification by the family is in progress, in cooperation with Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. An inquest docket has been opened by Police.

Police divers of the Water Policing and Diving Service are continuing ongoing search efforts for the remaining missing man.

Condolences are conveyed to the family, and thoughts and care remain with the families, friends and colleagues affected by this tragedy. The families are in the care of Police.
