NSRI St Lucia duty crew were activated Monday following a request for assistance from a local charter fishing boat reporting motor mechanical failure.

The vessel was limping on one motor with motor mechanical failure to her second motor.

The skipper was attempting to solve the mechanical issue but sea conditions were worsening at the time.

Our NSRI St Lucia duty crew responded to our NSRI St Lucia station 40 rescue base where we towed our NSRI rescue craft JetRIB which was launched.

On arrival on the scene, offshore of St Lucia, an NSRI crewman was transferred onto the fishing vessel to assist the skipper to try to restart the motor while our NSRI rescue craft, in relays, safely transferred 3 passengers to shore without incident.

Unable to restart the second motor our NSRI rescue craft escorted the vessel to the backline where the skipper was able to successfully negotiate to the shoreline through the surf break and recover the vessel  without incident.

The skipper has been commended for calling NSRI for assistance and for the skill he displayed being able to recover the vessel through the surf on one motor.
