Strengthening NSRI Rescue Operations with INEOS Automotive

When the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responds to emergencies on South Africa’s waters, reliability is essential. From unpredictable surf zones to rugged inland terrain, rescue operations depend on vehicles that can perform in extreme conditions and get crews and critical equipment where they’re needed, fast.

That’s what makes the developing partnership between the NSRI and INEOS Automotive such a meaningful step forward. Built on shared values of strength, dependability and purpose, INEOS is supporting the NSRI through the loan of INEOS Grenadier 4x4 vehicles, enhancing operational capability while easing pressure on operational resources.

This collaboration was initiated by the NSRI as part of an ongoing search for partnerships that deliver real, practical impact in the field.

This partnership exists because the Grenadier has proven itself as a practical, reliable tool that genuinely supports our life-saving work.”

When the NSRI approached INEOS Automotive, the conversation quickly moved beyond marketing to mission, centred on a simple question: could the Grenadier support real rescue operations? What followed was a clear alignment around engineering integrity, reliability under pressure, and performance where failure isn’t an option.

Importantly, the vehicles are provided via a structured loan agreement, ensuring no capital cost to the NSRI and no diversion of donor funding away from rescue services, training or water-safety programmes.

With two Grenadiers already deployed and two more preparing to go into service, the vehicles are now supporting:

• Access to remote and rugged launch sites 

• Coastal and inland rescue operations

• Towing of rescue craft and heavy equipment

• Mobile logistics, safety, and training support.

In practice, this means crews can reach difficult locations faster, operate more safely, and return home with greater confidence.

The Grenadier has already earned its place within NSRI operations. By helping crews reach the water – and return safely – these vehicles are strengthening the NSRI’s ability to save lives.
