Glen Preston, NSRI Shelly Beach Station Commander, said; At 17h39 on Thursday, 1 January, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew were activated following reports of a person reportedly missing in the surf zone at a beach between Hibberdene and Mfasazane.

NSRI Shelly Beach crew, Med-Evac ambulance services, the South African Police Service, and Police Search and Rescue responded.

An extensive search revealed no signs of a missing 33-year-old male, believed to be a local man, who had reportedly gone missing in the water at around 16h00.

Police Search and Rescue will continue ongoing search efforts, and the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Thoughts and care are with the family and friends of the missing man during this difficult time.
