Police divers (WPDS - Water Policing and Diving Services), Police K9 Search and Rescue and, at times, a Police helicopter, assisted by EC Government Health EMS and by NSRI Mdumbi, are continuing in ongoing search efforts for a teenager that went missing in the surf zone at Hole-in-the-Wall, Eastern Cape, on Tuesday.

Johann Stadler, NSRI Mdumbi station commander, said:

At 11h14, Tuesday, 16 December, NSRI Mdumbi duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Hole-in-the-Wall, Eastern Cape.

The SA Police Services responded and the NSRI Mdumbi rescue craft JetRIB was launched.

On arrival on the scene a search commenced for a 13 year old male teenager, from Mthatha, who had gone missing in the surf zone.

Despite the extensive sea and shoreline search there remained no sign of the teenager.

Police divers (WPDS - Water Policing and Diving Services), Police K9 Search and Rescue and, at times, a Police helicopter, assisted by EC Government Health EMS and by NSRI Mdumbi, are continuing in ongoing search efforts for the missing teenager.

Thoughts and care are with the family and friends of the missing teenager in this difficult time.
