Jonathan Britton, NSRI Wilderness station commander, said: At 15h13, Wednesday, 26 November, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports from an eyewitness of a drowning in progress at Herolds Bay.

A local adult man, appearing to be caught in a rip currents was reportedly waving towards the shoreline for help.

A local adult man, a Good Samaritan, who is an offshore commercial diver, entered the water to assist wearing fins while his partner raised the alarm calling NSRI and she informed NSRI of her partner going in to assist.

NSRI rescue swimmers and George Fire and Rescue Services responded while NSRI crew responded to the NSRI Herolds Bay community satellite station to prepare to launch the NSRI rescue craft V's Rescuer.

WC Government Health EMS were activated.

While responding to the scene the partner of the Good Samaritan kept NSRI and the responding emergency services appraised of the unfolding developments.

The Good Samaritan man reached the casualty, a male aged 34, finding him lying on his back in the surf zone in efforts to conserving energy.

Together the 2 men negotiated the sea swells making their way back towards the beach.

On NSRI arriving on the scene the 2 men had reached the beach safely.

NSRI medics checked on the casualty finding him not injured and requiring no further assistance.

Both men have respectfully requested privacy.

NSRI has commended the Good Samaritan man for his efforts in rescuing the casualty and his partner for swiftly raising the alarm and keeping NSRI informed of the unfolding situation is commended.
