Police divers (WPDS - Water Policing and Diving Services) are continuing in ongoing search efforts for a local teenager missing at Bakoven.
During the early hours of Saturday morning, 27 September, WC Government Health EMS Metro Control, NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre), the SA Police Services, Police WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services), CoCT (City of Cape Town) Law Enforcement and NSRI Bakoven duty controllers, were alerted to a teenager reported to be missing at Bakoven rocks, suspected to may be missing in the water, where a group of young adults had been on the rocks, at Bakoven, where an 18 year old male, from Delft, a member of the group, had gone missing.
Shoreline patrols and investigations along rocks and in the area around Bakoven revealed no signs of the teenager where it became increasingly evident that he may have slipped off rocks into the water during the incoming high tide.
The SA Police Services, Police divers (WPDS), CoCT Law Enforcement, EMS Metro Rescue, and an EMS Metro Rescue drone unit, and NSRI Bakoven rescue swimmers, attended at the scene conducting extensive search efforts, supported by the NSRI Bakoven rescue craft Gemini Legend that was launched to assist in the search.
Despite extensive air, sea and shoreline search efforts there remains no signs of the missing teenager.
Police have opened an investigation.
Search efforts are ongoing.
