Sharon Crowthar, NSRI Simons Town duty coxswain, said:
At 11h45, Sunday, 3 August, NSRI Simons Town duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from a solo French sailor onboard his sailing vessel reporting motor mechanical failure in False Bay and requiring help to get into Simons Town Harbour.
The NSRI rescue craft Jack & Irene was launched and rendezvoused with the 40 foot sailing vessel, near to Seal Island, just after 13h00, where 2 NSRI rescue crew were transferred onto the sailing yacht and they assisted the French solo sailor to establish a towline.
The casualty sailing yacht was towed safely to Simons Town and moored at the False Bay Yacht Club marina and no further assistance was required.
