John Nicholas, NSRI Port Edward station commander, said: At 11h14, Tuesday, 1 April, NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Silver Beach.

A local eyewitness reported seeing a man on the rocks near to Silver Beach swept off the rocks and could no longer be seen.

 

NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene while NSRI crew responded to our NSRI Port Edward station 32 rescue base where the NSRI rescue craft, Rescue 32 Alpha, was launched.

 

The SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue (WPDS - Water Policing and Diving Services) and Police K9 Search and Rescue responded.

 

On arrival on the scene a sea and shoreline search commenced that was joined by an Airtrack 101 helicopter that assisted in the search.

 

A floatation device was deployed into the water to establish a drift pattern to aid in the search efforts.

 

Despite an extensive search no signs of a missing person were located.

 

There remains no reports of a person missing. Anyone that has information that can identify the person who is suspected of going into the water can call Port Edward Police station 0393115432.
