Tania Fouche, NSRI Strandfontein station commander, said: At 15h30, Wednesday, 1 January, NSRI Strandfontein (West Coast) duty crew were activated following reports from the SA Police Services of a drowning in progress at the Olifants River Mouth, Papendorp, West Coast.
The SA Police Services responded and an NSRI rescue craft JetRib was towed to the scene and launched.
On arrival on the scene an extensive search, for a 32 year old local man who had gone missing in the water while swimming, commenced.
Despite an extensive search there remains no signs of the missing man.
Police WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Services) are activated to continue in an ongoing search.
Thoughts, care and compassion are with the family of the missing man in this difficult time.
