The highly anticipated IMRF People's Choice Award 2024 winner was announced at the IMRF Annual Meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece. This year, Dr Cleeve Robertson, former NSRI CEO, received the award for his outstanding contributions to the NSRI.

This follows his win of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) Lifetime Achievement Award, announced on November 8th.

The IMRF People's Choice Award is determined by a vote from the global maritime SAR community. All ten IMRF Awards winners and runners-up are eligible for the recognition.

NSRI CEO Mike Vonk said, “Dr Robertson’s recognition as the winner of the IMRF People’s Choice Award, following his recent IMRF Vladimir Maksimov Lifetime Achievement Award, is a testament to his exceptional dedication to NSRI vision of making South Africa a water-safe nation.”

“Under his visionary leadership, the NSRI underwent a remarkable transformation that saves lives and touches countless others through our commitment to drowning prevention.”

“This prestigious honour celebrates his tireless advocacy, innovative spirit, and the profound impact he has made on the maritime search and rescue community.”

“On behalf of the NSRI, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Doc Cleeve for his legacy of excellence,” said Vonk.

“I am humbled and grateful for this award. Being acknowledged and recognised by your peers, colleagues, and volunteers is a great honour and a fulfilling reward for my humble contribution to rescue and preserving life. Thank you to everyone who voted,” said Dr Robertson.
