UPDATE: KZN SOUTH COAST – Saturday, 23 November. Body of missing man located and recovered:

UPDATE - MARGATE PIER INCIDENT: At 08h39, Friday, 22 November, NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following eyewitness reports of a body adrift offshore of Mazamba River Mouth.

The NSRI rescue craft JetRib Spirit of Surf Ski 7 was launched, accompanied by Police K9 Search and Rescue divers.

On arrival on the scene the body of an adult man was located and recovered by Police divers.

The body of the man was brought to shore aboard the NSRI rescue craft where the body was taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an Inquest docket.

While the body is suspected to be the man who went missing at Margate Pier, on Saturday, 16 November, formal identification by family is in progress.

Condolences are conveyed to the family and friends of the deceased man.

NSRI – KZN South Coast – Sunday, 17 November. A fatal drowning of a female and one man missing. In a separate incident a man has suffered a fatal drowning:
 
Police divers, Police K9 Search and Rescue, assisted by lifeguards, are continuing in a search for a man who went missing in the surf at Margate on Saturday. Sadly, a lady rescued from the water by a Good samaritan succumbed to fatal drowning.

At 16h12, Saturday, 16 November, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew were activated following multiple reports of a drowning in progress at Margate Pier.

Eyewitnesses reported a male and a female caught in rip currents.

Simunye Lifeguard Services lifeguards, authorities of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, NSRI Shelly Beach rescue swimmers, the SA Police Services, Trauma 911 ambulance services and Netcare 911 ambulance services responded.

A bystander Good Samaritan, unidentified, reportedly entered the water and rescued an adult female from the water, bringing her to the beach.

The bystander Good Samaritan had gone back into the water to try to rescue the man but retreated in rough seas during the Spring high tide. He was not injured, and he is commended for his efforts.

Lifeguards entered the water, and a search commenced for the man who had disappeared under water.

2 NSRI Port Edward crewmen, a father and son, who happened to be nearby at the time, noticed the commotion and went to the beach where they assisted a lifeguard conducting CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on the female and were joined by paramedics.

After all efforts to resuscitate the female were exhausted sadly she was declared deceased.

Despite an extensive search there remains no signs of the missing man.

The local fishing community are commended for assisting on the scene.

The body of the deceased lady has been taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police divers, Police K9 Search and Rescue, assisted by lifeguards, are continuing in a search for the missing man.

Earlier, at 15h31, NSRI Shelly Beach were alerted to a drowning at Palm Beach.

The casualty was reported to be out of the water. 

Misalinx armed response officers arrived on the scene and found a man unresponsive on the beach.

KZN Private Ambulance, Medevac ambulance services, the SA Police Services and GP Security responded.

Sadly, the adult male was declared deceased.

The body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an Inquest docket.

Condolences are conveyed to family and friends of the deceased man.
