At 17h55, Sunday, 21 January, the CoCT (City of Cape Town) water rescue network was alerted to reports from CoCT lifeguards performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts on a man, believed to be aged in his early 30’s, from Samora Machel, Cape Town, who had collapsed, unresponsive, on Muizenberg Beach.
The SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS, Life Healthcare response paramedics, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and CoCT Law Enforcement responded.
NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) and NSRI Strandfontein were alerted.
On arrival on the scene paramedics assisted the lifeguards with CPR efforts.
After extensive CPR efforts were exhausted sadly the man was declared deceased.
The body of the man was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
While it is suspected that the man may have passed away from natural causes Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.
Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.
