Condolences are conveyed to family and friends of a local 58-year-old man who sadly passed away, from a suspected medical incident, at Clifton 4th Beach on Tuesday, 5 December, while swimming with friends.
We believe 2 local men, Good Samaritans, noticed the man unresponsive in the water and they recovered him to the shore where a local doctor, who happened to be there at the time, immediately initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation efforts, assisted by bystanders.
At 06h43 NSRI Bakoven were alerted.
NSRI Bakoven, NSRI Table Bay, WC Government Health EMS, ER24 ambulance services, Netcare 911 ambulance services, Taurus Medical ambulance service, CoCT (City of Cape Town) Law Enforcement, the SA Police Services and Camps Bay CSI (Community Safety Initiative) responded.
On arrival on the scene advanced life support CPR continued but despite extensive efforts sadly the man was declared deceased.
Family is in the care of Police and NSRI and they have respectfully requested privacy in this difficult time.
The body of the man was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
