NSRI's 12m Lochin rescue vessel will become available for sale in Q3/Q4 2023. The vessel's home port is Richards Bay where she has been housed out the water on a launching cradle inside the rescue base boathouse. Her year of launching was 1986 in Durban, and she was manufactured in the UK by Lochin Marine.

The current asking price is R 2 500 000 (negotiable) with or without the launching cradle for the vessel.

The vessel's last major refit was in 2008 where she was totally overhauled - hull, electrics, new shafts and propellers, and the Cat 3208 engines and gearboxes were replaced with new Cat C7 engines as well as new gearboxes. Since then she has had work done to comply with the SAMSA regulations. Shafts, valve inspections and some electrical work were also done and new Furuno navigation equipment was fitted in 2019.

The vessel is fitted with the following:

  • Radar (Furuno)
  • Chart plotter Furuno TZ 2
  • Echo sounder (Furuno)
  • AIS (Furuno)
  • Marine vhf radio (Sailor)
  • Zero 29 meg radio
  • 8-man life raft stowed under the flybridge deck
  • All SAMSA required safety equipment for a commercial vessel of her size.

  • Draft – 1.4m
  • Displacement – 12.5 tons
  • Cat C7 marine diesel engines – two (2)
  • Twin Disk gearboxes – Two (2)
  • 4kw Onan generator
  • Number of crew – six seated in the wheelhouse
  • Survivor accommodation - eight seated in forward cabin
  • 2 x 800l s/steel fuel tanks
  • Cruising speed 18 knots, max speed 26 knots
  • Range 140 nm with 200l reserve.
  • Electrical system – 24v DC and 220v ac for the air conditioner.
  • Engine instrumentation.


As our vessels reach the end of their lifespan for rescue service - the NSRI would love to see them have a second life and offer our supporters the opportunity to purchase them. Funds raised through their purchase will go towards the costs of new vessels for rescue service.
