UPDATE from the statement issued yesterday about 2 men, ages 54 and 40, who remained missing at Gordons Bay. Today 21 February, City of Cape Town (CoCT) lifeguards, at Koegelbaai, located the body of a man behind the back breakers.

Under the guidance of the Police Dive Unit CoCT lifeguards recovered the body of the man to the shore where SA Police Services, the Police Dive Unit and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services attended at the scene.

The body of the man was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police are assisting the families of the 2 missing fishermen, who were reported missing on a small open boat off-shore of Strand on Monday, with identification procedures.

It is believed that the body is that of the 54 year old man from that incident.

Condolences are conveyed to the family.

Thoughts are with the family of the man that remains missing.

CoCT lifeguards and CoCT Law Enforcement officers are tasked to keep a look out.

CoCT lifeguards at Koegelbaai are commended for their swift reaction on Tuesday afternoon.
