A towline was established and we towed them to the slipway without incident and their boat was recovered and no further assistance was required.
GQEBERHA:
Justin Erasmus, NSRI Gqeberha station commander, said:
On Saturday evening, 12 March, NSRI Gqeberha was requested to assist 2 foreign yachts, last Port of call Mexico, that were nearing the Port of Port Elizabeth with one yacht towing their fellow yacht that had experienced engine failure.
The NSRI HQ training department were at our NSRI base at the time conducting a coxswains development course for our crew as well as NSRI crew from East London, Storms River, St Francis Bay and Jeffreys Bay.
It was decided to use the opportunity for added training and the NSRI training department, with NSRI trainee coxswains, launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 4 and Eddie Beaumont, and met up with the 2 yachts as they neared our Port.
On arrival on the scene the towline was taken over from the lead yacht and we took the casualty yacht under tow and towed her to a safe berth without incident.
Their fellow yacht berthed without incident.
