Eye-witnesses reported that the man had held onto an anchor chain of a boat at anchor appearing to rest before disappearing under water.

An extensive search has revealed no sign of the man.

A Police Dive Unit has been alerted and will continue in an ongoing search.

Earlier this month, at 15h00, on Wednesday, 19 January, NSRI Lamberts Bay duty crew attended at Skellemstrand, Doringbaai, following a fatal drowning.

The SA Police Services and WC Government Health EMS were in attendance where the body of a 53 year old male, from Middleberg, was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

It appears that the man had been swept out to sea in rip currents after reportedly being swept off his feet in shallow water and later the body of the man had washed ashore.

Police have opened an inquest docket.

Condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased man.
