Travis Clack, NSRI Witbank station commander, said:At 11h15, Saturday, 30 January, NSRI Witbank Dam duty crew were activated to assist Police divers in a body recovery operation at the Olifants River, near to the Olifants River Bridge, N4 highway.NSRI Witbank Dam rescue swimmers joined SA Police Services, Police divers. Police K-9 search and rescue, Legacy Emergency Services and N4 Trac (Traffic Control) on the scene.In barely accessible terrain the body of a man, believed to be aged in his 20's or 30's and believed to be a local man, who had reportedly disappeared under water in unknown circumstances, was recovered in a technical recovery operation that was led by Police.The body of the man was taken into the care of Emalahleni Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.At 19H00, Saturday, 30 January, NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) were alerted to reports of a 32 year old man that had disappeared under the water after reportedly jumping from a rock face with friends near to Bronkhorstspruit in the Wilge River.Our NSRI Witbank duty crew and Police were alerted but barely accessible terrain prevented a recovery operation after dark and Police requested NSRI Witbank to assist them in a recovery operation from first light on Sunday morning.NSRI Witbank rescue swimmers joined the SA Police Services, a Police Dive Unit and a Police K9 search and rescue unit on Sunday morning.Gauteng Government Health EMS and ORRU (Off Road Rescue Unit) also assisted in the operation.A search area was identified by the Police K-9 officers and during a scuba-dive search operation Police divers recovered the body of the man from under water.The body of the man was taken into the care of Gauteng Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.
