Mike Shaw, NSRI Mykonos station commander, said:Just after 08h00, Sunday, 16 August, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated to investigate reports of an inflated life-raft witnessed by a local security officer to be floating half a nautical mile off-shore of Jacobs Baai.The sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 5 was launched and on arrival on the scene the security officer guided us to the location and we located and recovered a fully inflated unmanned life-raft.Transnet National Ports Authority confirmed that they were aware of a life-raft washed off a local service vessel recently.The serial numbers on the life-raft confirmed that this was a life-raft swept off a local service vessel.The life-raft was brought to our NSRI sea rescue base at Mykonos.Arrangements have been made with the ships agent to collect the life-raft from our NSRI Mykonos sea rescue station.NSRI commend the local security guard for his vigilance and for remaining on the scene to monitor the life-raft until NSRI arrived. -ENDS-
