Vaughn Seconds, NSRI Strandfontein station commander, said:At 12h14, Sunday, 02 February, NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated following reports from CoCT (City of Cape Town) Lifesaving lifeguards, at Monwabisi on the False Bay Coast, of an adult male from Strandfontein who had gone missing in the surf while swimming.CoCT lifeguards had initiated a search and NSRI Strandfontein dispatched a sea rescue vehicle and launched the sea rescue craft Sharon and Film Industry Fund Rescuer 1 and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter, WC Government Health EMS, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services and their Fire Dive Unit, Law Enforcement and Law Enforcement Marine Unit, SA Police Services and a Police Dive Unit responded to join CoCT lifeguards who were engaged in an extensive search for the missing man.Despite an extensive sea, air and shoreline search, which included Fire Dive Unit rescue divers, NSRI rescue swimmers and CoCT lifeguards deployed into the surf conducting free dive sweeping line search efforts, no sign of the man has been found.A Police Dive Unit are tasked to continue in an ongoing search operation and Police are investigating.The man's daughter, believed to be aged 8, was located at their vehicle in the parking area and the child has been taken into the care of Police.
