Robert van Helsdingen, NSRI Wilderness duty coxswain, said:At 17h04, Thursday, 13th February, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports of a fisherman fallen off rocks into the sea at the Gwaing River Mouth.NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene and our Sea Rescue vehicle was dispatched and the sea rescue craft Oscars Rescuer was towed to the scene and launched.WC Government Health EMS, the SA Police Services and George Fire and Rescue Services responded and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter was placed on alert.On arrival on the scene a sea and shoreline search commenced for a 58 year old male , from Pacaltsdorp, but despite an extensive search no sign of the man has been found.A friend of the fisherman confirmed that while they were fishing together the missing man had fallen off rocks and it had taken some time to reach an area with cellphone signal to raise the alarm.A Police Dive Unit are tasked to continue in an ongoing search operation and Police have opened an investigation.Family of the missing man attended at the scene and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing man in this difficult time.
