Teenager missing in the surf:

At 10h11, Thursday, 10th October, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Swartkops River Mouth, Port Elizabeth.3 local male teenagers were reported to be swimming when they were caught in rip currents.2 of the teenagers managed to get to shore and were not injured but one teenager, aged 17, disappeared under water.The sea rescue craft JLK Rescuer was launched and the sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 4 was towed to the scene and launched to join NMB (Nelson Mandela Bay) Beach office who launched a rescue craft and Bluewater Bay lifeguards who launched a rescue craft.Coastal Water Rescue dispatched rescue swimmers who entered the water to conduct free dive search efforts.NMB Fire and Rescue Services, EC Government Health EMS and the SA Police Services also responded and a Police helicopter joined in the search.Despite an extensive air, sea and shoreline search, including rescue swimmers conducting free dive search efforts, no sign of the missing teenager has been found and Police will continue in an ongoing search.Police are investigating.Image source: RNews
