Brendon Power, NSRI Ballito duty coxswain, said:Thoughts are with a teenager, in hospital, in a critical condition, after being rescued from the surf at Salt Rock.At 14h07, Saturday, 28th September, NSRI Ballito duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress North of Salt Rock main beach in rough seas during the Spring high tide.NSRI Ballito, Kwadakuza Municipal (KDM) lifeguards, Netcare 911 ambulance services and IPSS Medical Rescue responded.On KDM lifeguards arriving first on the scene it was found that a 17 year old girl was being swept out to sea by rip currents. 2 Good Samaritans, male bystanders, had reached her in the surf.KDM lifeguards launched into the surf and were able to rescue all 3 to the shore and KDM lifeguards initiated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on the teenager. They were joined by paramedics who performed advanced life support CPR and resuscitation efforts were successful.The teenager was airlifted to hospital by the Lenmed1 helicopter where she remains in a critical condition.The 2 bystander rescuers were transported to hospital suffering non-fatal drowning symptoms and one with cuts and bruises sustained on rocks during the rescue effort.NSRI commend the swift response by all involved.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
