Stephen Slade, NSRI Port Alfred deputy station commander, said:At 11h08, Friday, 16th August, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated following reports of a boat believed to have been broadsided by a wave in the Kowie River Mouth while it is believed the boat with 3 local men on board was returning from sea and causing the 3 occupants to go overboard.Our sea rescue craft Rescue 11 Alpha was launched and our sea rescue vehicle, EC Government Health EMS, Gardmed ambulance services, Ndlambe Fire and Rescue Services, Ndlambe Disaster Risk Management officers and the SA Police Services responded.On arrival on the scene a 26 foot local commercial fishing boat was found washed against rocks on the East Pier of the Kowie River Mouth.1 survivor , age 47, was recovered from rocks at East Beach and 2 men, age 81 and 55, were recovered from the surf and rescued onto our sea rescue craft and brought onto East Beach with CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts being applied to both men and CPR efforts were continued by paramedics but sadly after all extensive CPR efforts were exhausted the 2 men have been declared deceased.The survivor has been transported to hospital by ambulance in a serious but stable condition in the care of paramedics for further medical treatment in hospital.The bodies of the 2 deceased men have been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.The joint emergency services convey condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.Police have opened an inquest docket.
