Geoff McGregor, NSRI East London station commander, said:On Sunday morning, 14th July, NSRI East London duty crew responded to Cinsta where a 4.5 meter inflatable boat capsized with 2 local men onboard.EC Government Health EMS and Aldersons ambulance services were activated.On arrival on the scene the 2 men were found safely ashore and one of the men sustained non-fatal drowning symptoms and he was treated by paramedics.The EMS helicopter was activated and the man was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition and he is recovering.Their boat was recovered.On Monday morning, 15th July, we launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Lotto to rendezvous with a yacht, sailing from Durban to Cape Town, that sustained steering and motor mechanical failure on Sunday while off the Transkei Coast.The 3 male crew activated an emergency using NSRI RSA SafeTrx on Sunday reporting one crewman to be suffering motion sickness and dehydration and reporting their mechanical problems but they were under sail and not in any imminent danger and requesting NSRI to monitor their progress and to be on alert and to assist when they were closer to Port.NSRI East London rendezvoused with them 7 nautical from the Port of East London off Kwelega and we took them under tow. They have been towed to East London where EC Government Health EMS paramedics attended to the patient who was released following on-scene treatment and he required no further medical attention.They will affect repairs to their yacht before continuing on their voyage.
PORT ELIZABETH:Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander, said: At 06h43, Monday, 15th July, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft to rendezvous with a bulk carrier off the Port of Port Elizabeth to evacuate a 47 year old Filipino crewman suffering a laceration to his head.NSRI Port Elizabeth had been placed on alert on Sunday night to prepare for the patient evacuation who was confirmed to be in a stable condition and not in any imminent danger. Our NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) monitored progress during the night.On Monday morning on our arrival at the ship, 2 NSRI rescue swimmers were transferred onto the bulk carrier and the patient, in a stable condition, was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought into the Port. He has been taken to hospital by the ship's agent for further treatment.
