TONGAAT:At 13h15, NSRI Station 41 Ballito were activated along with Netcare 911, RUSA (Reaction unit SA), Urgent Life Care, IPSS Medical and Rescue following reports of a drowning in a community pool at Buffelsdale, Tongaat .On arrival eThekwini Muncipal lifeguards were found performing CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on a 29 year old man who is believed to have suffered a drowning accident in the pool.Paramedics continued with Advanced Life Support intervention but sadly after all efforts at CPR were exhausted he was declared deceased by paramedics.Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Condolences are conveyed to family.
KLEINMOND:At 13h54, NSRI Station 42 Kleinmond, NSRI Station 17 Hermanus, Overberg Fire and Rescue services, WC Government Health EMS, SA Police Services and EMR ambulance services responded to Palmiet Beach, Kleinmond following reports to TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) of a drowning in progress.See en Sand lifeguards and a member of the public rescued a 17 year old man, from Caledon, who had been caught in rip currents.The teenager was treated by paramedics for non-fatal drowning symptoms and transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
TABLEVIEW:At 14h42 Community Medics were activated to reports of a drowning in progress at Tableview Beach, Table View.Community Medics, NSRI Station 18 Melkbosstrand, NSRI Table Bay, SA Paramedic Services, Life Healthcare response paramedics, WC Government Health EMS, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services, Big Bay Surf Lifesaving lifeguards, Law Enforcement officers, the SA Police Services and local Neighbourhood Watch responded.A local man, aged approximately 30 years old had been rescued from the water by a local bystander.On arrival on the scene lifeguards and paramedics initiated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on man who is believed to have suffered a drowning accident after being caught in rip currents.Paramedics continued with Advanced Life Support intervention but sadly after all efforts at CPR were exhausted he was declared deceased by paramedics.Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Condolences are conveyed to family.
STRAND:At 15h03, NSRI Station 9 Gordons Bay were alerted by GB Med ambulance service of a drowning in progress at Strand Beach.GB Med Security ambulance service, WC Government Health EMS, Strand Surf Lifesaving lifeguards, NSRI Station 9 Gordons Bay, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services and Law Enforcement officers responded.Lifeguards rescued a 15 year old man from rip currents in the surfline.Paramedics treated the teenager for non-fatal drowning symptoms and he has been transported to hospital by GB Med Security ambulance in a serious but stable condition.
RICHARDS BAY:At 15h20 NSRI Richards Bay dispatched sea rescue craft to the Bay Hall Area following reports of a person missing in the water.Police Search and Rescue, lifeguards and uMhlatuzi Fire and Rescue Services responded.During a search for a child, aged between 10 and 13, who had been reported missing in the water, NSRI came across a drowning in progress and rescued an 8 year old local male from the water and he has been transported to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.Then, at around 17h22, NSRI were notified that Police Search and Rescue had recovered the body of the child who had gone missing in the water earlier.Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the deceased child has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Condolences are conveyed to family.
STRAND:At 16h00 NSRI Station 9 Gordons Bay were alerted by GB Med Security ambulance service of a drowning in progress at Strand Beach.GB Med Security ambulance service, WC Government Health EMS, Strand Surf Lifesaving lifeguards, NSRI Station 9 Gordons Bay, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services and Law Enforcement officers responded.Members of the public had run to the Municipal swimming pool to raise the alarm and to call the lifeguard on duty at the Municipal swimming pool.CoCT Pro Lifesaving lifeguard Cameron Vannithing responded from Strand Municipal Swimming Pool and rescued a 30 year old male from rip currents in the surfline.On getting the man to the beach Cameron initiated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on the man.CPR efforts were joined by paramedics and CPR continued in the ambulance en route to hospital and during the ambulance transportation to hospital a pulse was restored and the patient remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Cameron, who accompanied the ambulance to hospital continuing to assist paramedics with CPR efforts, is commended for his effort.TABLEVIEW:At 16h03 NSRI Station 18 Melkbosstrand, Big Bay Surf Lifesaving lifeguards, Community Medics, WC Government Health EMS, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services, Law Enforcement officers, the SA Police Services and local Neighbourhood Watch responded to Tableview Beach following reports of 2 people, a man and a woman, being swept out to sea by rip currents.It appears that a woman got into difficulty in rip currents in the surf and a man went to assist but he got into difficulty, another man went to assist and was able to reach the woman and they got out of the water.
On arrival on the scene it was found that German tourist, Igor Obu, had used an NSRI Pink Rescue Buoy (stationed at Tableview Beach on the pole) to rescue a 34 year old male from the water and it is believed that the 34 year old man was the man who had first gone to try to assist the lady.SMALL BAY:At approximately 16h45 lifeguards rescued a 35 year old man from the surf at Small Bay, Blouberg and initiated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts.Paramedics and Fire and Rescue Services dive unit medics joined the CPR efforts but sadly after all efforts at CPR were exhausted the man was declared deceased by paramedics.Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Condolences are conveyed to family.
BUFFELS BAY:At 17h15 NSRI Station 10 Simons Town and CMR (Cape Medical Response) responded to Buffels Bay following reports from TMNP (Table Mountain National Park) rangers of 4 people, 3 women and a man, being swept out to sea by rip currents.While NSRI and CMR were responding to the scene TMNP rangers reported all 4 casualties had been rescued from the water by 4 men who appeared out of nowhere, they ran into the water and swam after the 4 casualties and rescued all 4 casualties and handed the 4 casualties into the care of the TMNP rangers before leaving the scene and it remains unknown who these 4 good samaritans are.The 4 men had run past an NSRI Pink Rescue Buoy that is stationed on a pole at Buffels Bay - not using the buoy to assist in the rescue.NSRI Simons Town and CMR paramedics treated 2 females, a 26 year old and a 35 year old, for non-fatal drowning symptoms and they were transported to hospital by CMR ambulance in stable conditions.The remaining man and woman were not injured. All 4 are from Steenberg.
NSRI commend the swift actions of the 4 unidentified men who rescued the 4 casualties and who they are and where they came from remains a mystery.WESTBROOK:At approximately 17h20 NSRI Station 41 Ballito duty crew, with a Sea Rescue jetski in tow, and eThekwini Muncipal lifeguards, Netcare 911 ambulance services, SAPS Search and Rescue were activated to a drowning in progress at Westbrook beach,On arrival at scene the lifeguards had rescued a 13 year old girl from the water, crews assisted lifeguards to move her from the crowded beach to where the Netcare 911 ambulance crew could treat her for non fatal drowning symptoms and she was transported to hospital by Netcare 911 ambulance in a stable condition for further treatment
TABLEVIEW BEACH:At 19h00 NSRI Station 18 Melkbosstrand, Big Bay Surf Lifesaving lifeguards, Community Medics, WC Government Health EMS, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services, Law Enforcement officers, the SA Police Services and local Neighbourhood Watch responded to Tableview Beach following reports of a 23 year old man swept out to sea by rip currents and eye-witnesses reported seeing the man disappear under water.He had been swimming with 2 friends and they were both able to get out of the surf.An extensive sea and shoreline search revealed no sign of the man, from Duduza, Johannesburg, who is on holiday visiting friends in Cape Town.Police divers assisted by CoCT Fire and Rescue Services divers and NSRI Melkbosstrand are continuing in an ongoing search operation.
