Geoff McGregor, NSRI East London station commander, said:
On Sunday, 23rd December, NSRI Station 7 East London launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of DHL to assist the 40 foot yacht Kambro, last Port of call Richards Bay, with 2 males and a female onboard, after the yacht experienced battery power failure causing motor mechanical failure.
On arrival on the scene, 3 nautical miles off-shore of Eastern Beach, the skipper requested NSRI attempt to jump start the battery but after the electrical power could not be restored NSRI towed them into the Port of East London without incident and once safely moored no further assistance was required.
Sean Nass, NSRI Port Nolloth station commander, said:
At 15h15, Monday, 24th December, NSRI Station 43 Port Nolloth were activated following eye-witness reports of a man in difficulty from a capsized surfski at a reef in McDougalls Bay.
Our sea rescue craft Rescue 43 was launched and on arrival on the scene the local 35 year old man was rescued onto our sea rescue craft and he was not injured and we took him ashore without incident and he required no further assistance.
It was too risky to immediately recover the surfski that was washing onto a reef and the surfski is expected to wash ashore at high tide.
