Geoff McGregor, NSRI East London station commander, said:At 15h30, Thursday, 06th December, NSRI East London duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Eastern Beach.The sea rescue craft Lotto Rescue Runner was launched and our sea rescue vehicle with NSRI rescue swimmers, the SA Police Services K-9 Search and Rescue, Aldersons ambulance service and BCM (Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality) Fire and Rescue Services responded.On arrival on the scene a search commenced for 2 men, one aged 25 and one man whose age is unknown, missing in the surf after getting into difficulties while swimming.Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search no sign of the 2 men has been found and Police K-9 Search and Rescue and a Police Dive Unit will continue in an ongoing search operation.Police have opened an investigation.
