Bruce Davidson, NSRI Bakoven duty coxswain, said:At 11h02 on Sunday the 21st of October, NSRI Bakoven duty crew, while on routine training exercises in Table Bay aboard the sea rescue craft Rotarian Schipper, diverted to assist a 7 meter rigid inflatable boat (RIB) with 3 crew on board reporting electrical failure on their boat resulting in motor mechanical failure and lying 2 nautical miles South of Robben Island.The initial call was relayed by TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) to NSRI Table Bay and to NSRI Melkbosstrand. They remained on alert while NSRI Bakoven, who were training in the vicinity at the time, diverted to assist the casualty boat and her crew.Arriving on scene the crew of the RIB were found safe.A towline was rigged and they were towed safely to OPBC (Oceana Power Boat Club) where they had launched from earlier in the day. Their RIB was recovered onto the trailer and no further assistance was required.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
