NSRI Knysna and NSRI Plettenberg Bay are honoured with CEO Letters of Appreciation:It gives us great pleasure to record the sincere appreciation of everyone who knows, for the sterling efforts of all crew on Station 12 and Station 14 during the 8 days of terrible fires that raged between Sedgefield and Plettenberg Bay, from the 7th to 14th June 2017.During that period, night & day, Station 12 worked tirelessly, alongside the crew of Stn 14, Plettenberg Bay, assisting the Eden District emergency services and the Eden, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay Fire and Rescue Services in evacuating residents and animals from areas threatened by the flames and in providing medical services, where required, including to firefighters injured in one way or another whilst trying to suppress the fire storm fuelled by strong winds and high temperatures.Your commitment in assisting in every way you could the local communities in their extreme hour of need was exemplary – the waterborne evacuation by your rescue craft of persons from shoreline homes along the coast and in the Knysna lagoon, who were cut off by the fires from escape any other way, was particularly noteworthy – and in the very best traditions of the National Sea Rescue Institute of using our knowledge and assets to help people – and where possible, animals – in their distress, whatever its nature.
