Johan Combrinck, NSRI St Lucia station commander, said:At 09h00, Friday, 11th May, NSRI Richards Bay were made aware of reports of a yacht aground on a beach at Mapelane Bay, South of St Lucia.Enquiries were made and it was confirmed that a 26 year old male solo sailor, believed to be from Israel, was safely ashore and not injured and his yacht Christina was hard aground on the beach.NSRI St Lucia dispatched duty crew to check on the man.It appears that the yacht may have been taking water, en route reportedly from Durban to Maputo, before grounding on the beach at Mapelane.NSRI St Lucia found the yacht hard aground after we believe it ran gently onto the shore earlier and initial investigations appear to indicate that the yacht may not be able to be re-floated.Ezemvelo Wildlife rangers assisted to recover personal belongings from the yacht and the sailor is investigating his options going forward and it has not been determined if the yacht can be re-floated.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
