Alan Meiklejohn, NSRI Gordon's Bay station commander, said:At 13h14, Friday, 10th November, NSRI Gordon's Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of 2 people suspected of being swept out to sea at Strand Beach, by the Strand Jetty after cries for help could be heard by eye-witnesses coming from the direction of rocks in shallow surf along the Strand reef. The sea rescue craft Mercantile Rescuer and the NSRI rescue runner Boetie Woltemaade was launched and our NSRI rescue vehicle, NSRI rescue swimmers, the SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS, the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and a Fire dive unit, GB Med and GB Sec (Gordon's Bay Medical and Security) and Cape Town Traffic Services responded to join Law Enforcement Marine officers who were on the scene.Despite an extensive sea, shore and air search, including NSRI rescue swimmers and Fire rescue divers conducting free dive sweeping line searches, and in clear water conditions with excellent water visibility conditions, low tide and calm seas, no sign of any persons in distress could be found and there remains no reports of any persons missing or overdue.Police will continue to monitor the situation but at this stage it is suspected that this may have been a false alarm with good intentions and NSRI and the emergency services remain on alert to respond to any new information.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
