Willem Lubbe, NSRI Yzerfontein station commander, said:
At 11h45, Monday, 10th April, NSRI Yzerfontein duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Rotary Onwards to rendezvous with a fishing vessel at anchor at Huisbaai, Dassen Island, suffering battery failure.
We delivered 2 fresh batteries and stood by on the scene but after their motors were unable to work, despite the fresh batteries, a fellow boat towed them to their Port base and they will have their motors repaired.
Theo Erasmus, NSRI Witsand station commander, said:
A boat sustained motor mechanical failure on the Breede River at the Withuis, about 10 nautical miles from the Witsand Port Beaufort NSRI Station.
Two crew were on board the vessel, the skipper a 72 year old man visiting from Christiana in the North West Province, requested assistance from the NSRI at 17h45, Monday, 10th April.
We launched our sea rescue craft Breede Rescuer and on arrival on the scene we found them safe and we towed the vessel to the Kraaltjie in Port Beaufort where NSRI assisted to recover their vessel and no further assistance was required.
